I Love A Morning Routine.

Confession:  I love hearing about people’s morning routines, particularly artist and writer morning routines but basically I just love hearing how people spend their morning.  It’s such an intimate and creative time so I think what you do with it says a lot about you.
The Unclutterer organizes his morning routine around drinking coffee.  Architect Robert Venturi says he takes notes in the middle of the night so his morning routine is to organize those notes.  Here’s a whole site about morning routines.
When I stumbled on Sarah Wilson’s article about morning …

In Which I Make A New Office.

A few months ago the New Jerseyite and I turned to each other and agreed on something without any argument: our apartment was way too small.   I had felt that it was too small the moment I moved in because I couldn’t fit most of my books in a place where I could SEE them all.  I actually sat on a stool in the kitchen and cried about it (not my finest moment).   So now, we are smack in the middle of moving to an apartment that is not only …

Do Your Online Homework Before Sponsoring An Offline Event… The Renegade Craft Fair Example.

Last weekend I dragged myself out of bed and out into the rain for one of my favorite fairs – Renegade Craft Fair. Renegade has, for those of you that don’t know, grown into something of a phenomenon over the last few years as DIY has gotten obscenely popular. There are blogs, communities, whole video sites that are so amazing and crafty, and every other manner of online content dedicated to the craft movement. Since a lot of my own DIY projects either melt, look like a 4 …

Yes, Content Is King – But Don’t Forget About Strategy.

“I am the Lizard King.  I can do anything.” ~ Jim Morrison
I like the phrase “Content is King”.   I like the idea that the things we come up with creatively can drive the success of our projects and that the need for creative thinking has been duly noted this year because of wild successes like the Old Spice Guy and sites like Modern Mom that provide great content every day.  Truly, content is a huge, huge part of success in social media but I think that content has gotten a …

Friday Funrise!

This week was one of the busiest ever and I am reminded of when I started this company over a year and a half ago.  I used to go to movies during the DAY sometimes back then.  I had my nails done once every two weeks!  I used to neatly stack my bookcase by size and shape instead of piling them on every flat surface in the house!
Speaking of books – I just started Creative Inc. this week. It’s going to be on my recommended list for people who …

Tide Is Getting Into The Dry Cleaning Business – Is Social Media To Blame?

When Pop Tarts opened a New York store I have to admit I made a mental note that I would definitely be going there the next time I got to New York.  In fact, there’s a good chance I will go there straight from the airport since I apparently have the sweet tooth of an 8 year old that makes me do ridiculous things like buy $10 giant gummy bears (they are 1200 calories each btw) and I can’t event get into what happens to me when the Peeps hit …

Social Media And The Art Of Talking Around The Subject.

Everyone has seen the good, the bad, and the really, really bad on basically every online platform. The Twitter feed that reads:
“We’re having a sale 50% off”
“Stop in today – big sale”
“35% off everything”
It’s like someone taking out a huge cartoon Acme sledgehammer and hitting you over the head while calling you dumb. It’s annoying and the brand typically has under 100 followers to show for their efforts. I kind of feel bad, they’re trying…..
So since we don’t want to hit our clients and beloved customers over …

Interview With “Jane Has A Job”

I met Emma from “Jane Has A Job” a few weeks ago when she asked to do an interview on how I started my business and I was so happy to discover that her blog has tons of supersmart career advice.  When we got to talking, we both realized that we started our blogs in many ways to search for other career oriented women to be friends with.  Mission accomplished!  Read the interview here.

Social Media Spotlight: CB2 and The Selby

This contest is so smart I just had to write about it.  It’s  sponsored by CB2 and The Selby which is an incredible photo blog about people in their creative spaces.  Todd Selby shoots people in their apartments or lofts and is kind of a tastemaker of who’s cool right now.  He also shoots spaces as they are and not all styled and Martha Stewart-ed up so it’s appealing to people who want to design their own cool space and are the kind of people who troll through home blogs …

Friday Funrise!

This weekend is the weekend when I officially refurbish the old dresser in the bedroom.  I got the idea from this amazing magazine called Living Etc. (UK) that I discovered a few weeks ago.  They have an absolute TON of ideas for things you can do to your apartment / home that you can actually do yourself.   Another one that I love for ideas is Readymade, which I am going to do a whole post on next week.
Fast Company named the Top 10 Most Innovative Architecture Companies – prepare …
