Fluo Fantasy Wall Paints….. Because I Don’t Really Need That Security Deposit Back.

27 March 2010 7 Comments

My landlord would hate me if I used these on the walls but I love this look so much that I’m considering digging out my lease to remember just how much I put down in security deposit.

I almost never get it back anyway – this year already we’ve accidentally torn the refrigerator handle off and our porch screen door is off (I think someone walked through it?)  Anyway, I just can’t look at those blank white walls for too long before I one Saturday I’m having a glass of wine and get my paints out and by the time anyone stops me I have created something cool but can never let my landlord come in again.

This wouldn’t be the first time I’ve painted walls the color of a highlighter either.  One day a friend of mine and I were sitting on his front stoop in Santa Fe and we had the brilliant idea to paint his walls fluorescent orange.  I wasn’t there when his landlord first saw it but I heard about it later and it wasn’t good.

How cool do these look though?

Have any of you amended your apartments despite not being allowed to?

Yeah, I repainted a wall once as an accent and I made sure to change it back before I moved, the landlord never knew :) And I don’t regret it at all!

Nope. Until I own, I just make do with the sterile white walls the rental usually comes with. Blah, blah, boring!

You should totally do it. And I highly suggest while you’re painting your apartment these wonderful day-glow colors to play a little Judas Priest a la “Breaking the Law”. Hee-hee!

I LOVE those bright colors! I’ve had to paint a place back to white before moving out, and that kind of sucks – but… if you’re going to be there awhile? The bright colors are totally worth it :)

I dunno C-Mac… I feel like you’ll look like you live in a cartoon if you go with those wall colors.

ohhhhh who lives in a pineapple under the sea…

I am LOVING the lime green and teal/turquoise room. I never had the guts to go against my lease and paint a wall (though, I should have. You can always paint it back, right), and instead made do with tons of framed art all over the hospital-white walls. I say do it, though. Life is too short for bland decor.

Not sure what state you live in but many states have a landlord/tenant law which requires the landlord to supply you with a bank account, the account number, and your name on the account which is holding your security deposit. Landlord has to give you this information within 30 days of you signing the lease. If landlord fails to supply you with this they must return the security dep in full when you request it, so you could request it back 31 days after you sign lease, and they have to give it… Check it out
Only saying this because most landlords don’t know this OR NEVER send you the account info…

I painted two accent walls in my first apartment two subtle different shades of Lime Green So worth not getting my deposit back over. He wasn’t going ot give it back to me anyway…my old landlord was a “prick” or I would have stayed in this place I loved it…other than the mouse he refused to catch or the washer that leaked..but decor wise LOVED the Green
